We recommend starting to make the necessary calls to transition the utilities about one week prior to closing. The closing date can sometimes change, so don’t call too far in advance. We will prompt you when it is a good time to do this.
You will want to get all the utilities transferred into your name effective the closing date. Please keep in mind that ALL utilities need to stay on through the closing date. Organizations to call will include:
If you have phone, television, security or internet services, you’ll also want to cancel those and those can be cancelled at any time prior to closing.
If you receive services at your home such as landscaping, pool, pest, cleaning, you’ll want to arrange to cancel those services too. You can cancel those services prior to closing, but be sure your pool and landscaping remain in the same condition as the Buyer saw during their initial visit and the Inspection Period. In other words, plants, grass and pool water need to look the same as they did when you listed your home.
It’s also a good idea to submit a change of address form about two weeks prior to closing to ensure you continue to receive your mail at your forwarding address.
If you have any questions, please let us know. We’re excited for this next step and to ensure a smooth transition out of your home!
