Oh how we love Central Phoenix, let us count the ways! To start, we love the neighborhood charm. With tree lined streets, large front yards and the nearby Bridle Path and Canal, the area is a great mix of old fashioned neighborhood feel, coupled with great nearby recreation. We like to call it the Mayberry of Phoenix (that may date us, but hopefully most of you remember Andy Griffith). There is also great transportation with the Grid Bike Share program and the light rail system.
The biggest draw to the area, though are all the fantastic restaurants! This area is the epitome of a Foodie Hub! There is no way to do a top 10 and it will be hard to keep this list up to date, because new restaurants are being added so often! We’ll try though, so here are some of our current top Favorites! We’ll break it down by area too – Uptown, Midtown & Downtown!
AZ Pops – All natural and nothing artificial. Just yummy cool goodness in creative and crazy flavors – kiwi strawberry, watermelon mint, cantaloupe raspberry, goat milk balsamic fig, blue cheese honey, chocolate curry and so many more to choose from!
Churn – Love the old fashioned candy and the ice cream is fantabulous! Great spot for dessert after Windsor, Federal Pizza or JoyRide Tacos!
Creamistry – This is a fun favorite. You’ll enjoy picking out your flavor and mix-ins! Plus it’s entertaining to see it created!
Dick’s Hideaway – Located next to Luci’s, this is a hidden gem. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and mostly the same menu (parts of) Richarson’s and Rokerij. This is a great spot to stop in for a drink at the bar, or if you can get a table, stay longer and order a great meal. It’s tiny and cool! You could also stop here as part of a pub crawl. The corner of 16th and Bethany Home Road is a great “Pub Crawl” corner! Check out our Best Pub Crawl Page for more info!
Federal Pizza – Known for their pizza, we also love their loaded brussels, seasonal salad and crispy fingerlings. You can also order and pick-up in the drive-through and the patio seating has a fun city vibe. Then walk across the street to Churn for an ice cream cone!
Hobe Meats – Having a barbecue? Stop here first to get the best selection from your neighborhood butcher! You can’t miss it with the cow statues up front! If you’re looking for a great sandwich, you can also grab one from their deli to go!
Honor Amongst Thieves – Shhh…it’s a secret! A secret door is located on top of Stock & Stable. Don’t tell them I let out the secret! Get the Busty Lou at this fab speakeasy!
Joy Ride Tacos – Great tacos and margaritas and we love their guacomole with corn!
Ladera Taverna y Cocina – Great spot for Brunch!! Ask to sit on the patio.
Little Cleo’s – Best Seafood Restaurant in town – check out our Best of Seafood Page! Love, love, love this place!
Luci’s – There is a location at the Orchard and also on at 16th/Bethany. Both are great. Both have a great menu for a healthy and yummy breakfast or lunch and they also both have some great surprises in their gifty section! Check out the fun magnets too! Hilarious! The Orchard location has a great outdoor area too!
Mary Coyle – Good Ol’ Fashioned yummy fun! Closed on Sundays, so visit any other day to enjoy pure joy and a throwback in time!
Mora Italian – Created by famed Chef Scott Connant, this is a fabulous Foodie destination. Start with the bread cart and then be sure to get a pasta…they are all good. If you go in a group, then get a few to share, so you can at least taste a few!
Pomelo – Located at the Orchard, they are open for brunch, lunch and dinner. You can enjoy outdoor dining when the weather permits and the menu is fantastic. Go with friends and share!
Richardson’s – Many will remember Richardson’s on Bethany Home Road. After their fire, they moved to this location on 16th Street. The ambiance isn’t the same as the original, but the food is still the same and fantastic! Great for brunch, lunch or dinner!
Rokerij – Go downstairs to the bar area, grab a table, order the Brie Toasts. You’re welcome!
Spoke & Wheel – Ride your bike to the Canal and then stop for a drink or lunch or watch a game. Great hangout and bar food!
The Yard – Get the pretzel to start and then enjoy the creative menu…it’s all really good, so you can’t go wrong…but you’ll want to come back to try more! While you wait for a table, sit outside for a cocktail and play a game of ping pong or corn hole. Great for a group outing or family…the games are great fun, especially when the weather is nice.
Vig Uptown – Great for Happy Hour after work, dinner or a weekend lunch. We love the Lean & Green Steak Salad and the Crispy Chicken Sandwich! Yum! You could also stop here as part of a pub crawl. The corner of 16th and Bethany Home Road is a great “Pub Crawl” corner! Check out our Best Pub Crawl Page for more info!
Windsor – This has been a long-time favorite. The salmon is always fantastic when it’s their fish of the day and the kale caesar is a must!
Whining Pig – This is a fun stop for a glass of wine and a game of Rock ‘Em, Sock ‘Em! You could also stop here as part of a pub crawl. The corner of 16th and Bethany Home Road is a great “Pub Crawl” corner! Check out our Best Pub Crawl Page for more info!
Womak – Ready to get your groove on? Stop by after dinner and enjoy live music or DJ and dance the night away! There is often a line, but that’s because it’s worth the wait. The music is typically a little bit retro…Donna Summer would be thrilled and so were we!
Clever Koi – Another big hit amongst the foodie’s. Ideal to go with a group so you can order a variety of tastes to share. Creative cocktails too!
Durante’s – Yes you enter through the back and you walk through the kitchen and that is just the beginning of the charm of this historic Phoenix restaurant. Have a martini shaken, not stirred…sit down in the plush red booths and feel like one of the good fellas. One of the best steak dinners in town.
Fame Cafe – Breakfast, organic, delicious…need we say more! No…just go! Pronounced Fa May
Hula’s Modern Tiki – Crispy Fish Bites are a must! Great outdoor patio and island drinks. A little island vibe mini-vacation!
LUX – Great place for coffee and a pastry, or stop by for a glass of wine and enjoy the vibe. No signage and hard to find, so call us for details.

The DUCE – Where pretty meets gritty is their theme. Fun atmosphere with retro games and you’ll enjoy ordering from the trailers. Great for large groups!
Valley Bar – Feel ultra cool as you enter via the alley! Great music, some dancing and a bit of a New York vibe.
Still on our to do list…Matt’s Big Breakfast (we’ve tried, but always a wait) and Welcome Diner! Let us know if you go!
