There are so many fun events to enjoy during the holiday season in Arizona. Here are some of our favorites!
This is a great annual tradition. You can meet Santa and Mrs. Claus and you’ll keep the magic of the holiday season alive. Dress in your jammies and enjoy the hot cocoa! After your train ride, you’ll probably want to spend the night. The hotel adjacent the train is the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel. This often sells out fast and the location is great. We also recommend the Holiday Inn Express & Suites and La Quinta Hotels. Both are located just across the street and are, we believe, the best two hotels in town aside from the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel. You’ll want to book tickets in advance – Polar Express. While you’re there, you may also want to visit the Deer Farm – Deer Farm.
Christmas at the Princess
This is also a must do! There is something for all ages, in terms of activities, but mostly it’s just so beautiful! We love riding the train to see the light displays and if you can grab a spot to make s’mores, that is always a good time. The little ones will enjoy visiting with Santa and you can even go ice skating! Visit their web site to learn more about all the fabulous festivities! Christmas At The Princess!
McCormick-Stillman Train Park
We started visiting the park when my son was very little. He loved riding the train and seeing the lights and there were usually a few Christmas characters around for fun photo ops! Even though he’s a a teenager now and too grown up for the train park, I still try to find time to take him and a few friends to check it out. I’m nostalgic and he humors me typically and I think he still truly enjoys it too. To learn more about their tree lighting ceremony and concert schedule visit – McCormick Train Park.
Fantasy Boat Parade
When my son was younger, we went for several years and I have such fond memories of this activity. In recent years it always seems to fall on a Christmas Party night, so we haven’t been in a few years, but if you can squeeze this into your calendar, I highly recommend it. It gets pretty crowded, so arrive early and perhaps park and take a pedi-cab to get to the hub of the activities. All of downtown Tempe will be lit up with lights and the ambiance is pure festive. There will also be activities and booth similar to a street fair. For more info – Boat Parade Info.
You’ll love seeing the Zoo lit up with lights and fun surprises. This is one of the largest light displays in the southwest! Simply beautiful!
Glendale kicks off the holiday season with its weekend-after-Thanksgiving festivities, but the fun doesn’t end there. Every Friday and Saturday night until Christmas, the city features fun activities, concerts, foods, and horse-drawn carriage rides. About a million twinkling lights decorate the downtown area – even if you can’t attend the weekend festivities, the decorations are still worth seeing! Other celebrations include Winter Wonderland and Gingerbread Nights. The closing ceremonies, held in January, are known as the Glitter & Glow Block Party. The final block party features huge hot air balloons placed across the busy downtown quarter, live music, and holiday-themed treats.
The Gingerbread House Display at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge
Every year they feature a different theme. It’s fun to stop by and then enjoy a drink in the lounge or dinner at Roy’s. On weekends they often have characters for the kiddos to meet and it’s a great photo opp too!
