Who doesn’t love ice cream? When it’s a hot summer day, an outing for ice cream is the perfect treat!
First, we have to talk about Gelato. Gelato is probably our favorite and the best place to get Gelato is in North Scottsdale at That’s Amore! The selection is always great and it’s always fun to try a new flavor, but our favorites are Stracciatella, Bacio and Whiskey Cream.
The rest of our choices are in no particular order of preference…we love them all!
Churn is located next to the Windsor restaurant on Central in Uptown Central Phoenix. Not only is the ice cream fabulous, but they have some cute candy shop treats, including some old fashioned goodies. They also have some special flavors…we recently indulged in their “Hangover” ice cream…delicious!
Creamistry is the perfect combination of sweet goodness with entertainment value. You can pick out your type of ice cream, mix-in ingredients and topping. Then stand back and watch in amazement as they create your sweet concoction using liquid nitrogen. In the summer, especially, it’s fun to stop in and feel the chill. They have several locations including Uptown Plaza and across from Nordstrom near Scottsdale Fashion Square, Scottsdale Quarter and Arcadia!
We first experienced the Baked Bear during a vacation in San Diego. When they opened a location in Scottsdale, we were so excited! The lines were wrapped around the block, but it was worth the wait. The lines have calmed down, but the deliciousness remains the same. They are located in the Harkin’s Movie Theater shopping center, off Shea and Scottsdale Road.
When you step into Sugarbowl it’s like you’ve stepped back in time. This is a true Ice Cream Parlor with nostalgic flair, located in Old Town Scottdale. The vinyl pink booths and old fashioned feel are fantastic! Someone in the group should get the Top Hat Sundae!
Some other favorites include:
- Mary Coyle Ol’ Fashioned Ice Cream on 7th Street in Central Phoenix
- Sweet Republic in Scottsdale and Central Phoenix
Although not technically ice cream, another great place to visit for a cool treat is Rita’s Italian Ice. There are locations all over town. We recommend the custard with flavored ice combination.
